1. The state of Maryland has passed legislation that requires male voters to be twenty-one years of age to be eligible to vote while female voters need only be eighteen to vote. The federal government allows all citizens who are properly registered, to vote at the age of eighteen. Adam, a resident of Maryland authored a letter to the legislature detailing his concerns with the new law and along the way has met with some resistance from several elected officials after filing a formal complaint with the court. A secret court hearing was conducted while Adam was traveling with his employer and several sordid letters were posted concerning Adam's grades while in college stating he had been expelled for cheating. Records show that Adam had never been expelled and that he did not know when the court hearing was scheduled. The court ruled against Adam on the issue of voting age. To make matters worse, Adam learned that for the past twenty-three years someone had been "secretly" living on one of the two pieces of land in the Commonwealth of Virginia that his uncle left him in a will, and now he wonders how he will get his land back. As his troubles begin to mount, Adam is informed by Virginia officials that they plan to build a bridge for public use through his other property in the coming months. With mounting debt and the loss of his job due to the illicit rumors about his expulsion from college, Adam expresses to a neighbor his desire to raise capital for attorney fees and living expenses. His close associate, Jenny from the block, offers to buy one of his properties in Virginia for $100,000. Adam accepts the offer, and they shake hands to seal the deal.
