The text describes the process for calculating the reliability of the simple flashlight. In this case, we return to the "How Products are Made" Website.
Examine the site to find examples of large scale complex manufactured products.
Examples to be found in this list includes:
- Automobile
- Jet Engines
- Nuclear Submarine
- Heavy-duty truck
Choose one of the products (or select one of your choice found on the site) and examine the provided background material. Also, feel free to conduct additional research on the Internet or the Hunt Library in carrying out the case study activities below. Note: Due to the complexity of the products, feel free to select a simple subsystem of the overall product for your analysis.
Complete the following tasks:
- Describe the life cycle of your product including a diagram.
- Identify the types of failures and their significance at different points of the life cycle.
- Identify at least three components (or in some cases process or materials) in series in your product and three in parallel. Perform an estimated reliability of each. (Refer to the text for guidance.)
- Simple diagram of each of the component or subsystem sequences in step three.
- Design FMEA for at least ten items in the product you selected.
- Using the severity ratings for each element, design a probability of mishap map. (For example, see text - Quality by Summers, 2018)
