The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples ((2007)Links to an external site. (commonly referred to as the UNDRIP) was adopted by the United States in 2011Links to an external site.. Please read Article 14 of the UNDRIP below. After you've read the article several laws and policies previously adopted by the United States in support of Indigenous peoples' rights to their culture and languages in education should spring to mind. Which act or policy (choose one) that allowed American Indians and/or Alaska Native (AIAN) people to do any of the things discussed in Article 14 of the UNDRIP. Use your textbook and respond from chapters 11, 12, or 13 (the last chapters of the first edition from Reyhner & Eder).

Article 14

1. Indigenous peoples have the right to establish and control their educational systems and institutions providing education in their own languages, in a manner appropriate to their cultural methods of teaching and learning.

2. Indigenous individuals, particularly children, have the right to all levels and forms of education of the State without discrimination.

3. States shall, in conjunction with indigenous peoples, take effective measures, in order for indigenous individuals, particularly children, including those living outside their communities, to have access, when possible, to an education in their own culture and provided in their own language.
