SDGs in your surroundings or country. You will then analyze your system or product
using engineering economic analysis and life cycle costing principles.
Deliverable
You will prepare a 5-7 minute PowerPoint presentation to be delivered via WebEx. Your
presentation should include the following:
A description of your system or product and how it contributes to achieving one
or more SDGs
A breakdown of your system or product into its component parts and a
discussion of the relevant engineering economic and life cycle costing principles
A discussion of the stage of maturity of your system or product and the next
steps needed to bring it to market (if applicable)
A demonstration of your understanding of class concepts and tools
A discussion of the uncertainty and risk associated with your system or product
Evaluation
You will be evaluated on the following criteria:
Presentation and delivery
Idea and innovation
Applicability of your idea
Description of the idea/system (breakdown)
Description of stage of maturity
LCC concept and application (cost analysis)
Class concepts and tools
Uncertainty and risk
Bonus Points
Bonus points will be awarded for the following:

Impact: How significant of an impact will your system or product have on
achieving the SDGs?
Innovation: Is your system or product novel and innovative?
Applicability: Is your system or product applicable to your surroundings or
country?
Once you have chosen a system or product, begin to break it down into its component
parts. Identify the key inputs, outputs, and processes involved. Then, consider the
following engineering economic and life cycle costing principles:
Engineering economic analysis: This involves evaluating the economic
performance of your system or product over its lifetime. Consider factors such as
capital costs, operating costs, and maintenance costs.
Life cycle costing: This involves considering costs and impacts of your system or
product over its entire life cycle, from raw material extraction to disposal.
Think about your costs and uncertainties.
