I worked at plasma center as a phlebotomy supervisor. We was always short staffed, and we had so much confusion and drama. One of my employee would call out at least twice a week even after being written up multiple times. It got so bad that I had to bring it up in a meeting. They asked my opinion and I felt she needed to be fired, so they did and brought her back on after a month. After bringing her back she continued to call out and always used her kids as the excuse. One day I had 6 patients waiting outside the door when I got there and she never showed up. That time I was over it. If I were the manager my decision of firing her would've stick and she wouldn't be able to apply again. I would've hired someone else who's more reliable. It's important for managers to use the decision making process because it would've made it a better place to work and business would exceed.

Around 2006-2008 I worked for a very respectable hospital system. When I got hired I was so excited to be able to work for such a large cooperation due to my ability to move around or move up in my own department. I started out working evening shift because that was all that was offered at the time. I enjoyed my job, it wasn't to easy and it wasn't to hard. I worked the floors as a phlebotomist drawing blood on inpatients. Pretty soon we acquired blood draws in the emergency room as well. That was a whole new creature that made more work for us. It was only two of us to run that whole shift. The manager decides it is okay to take the other co-worker to the basketball game and leave me alone to work the whole hospital. I overlooked it and then it happened again. I then went to human resources about it and let them know that this was not good practice. I could not in good faith run a whole hospital and get draws done in a timely manner on my own. They spoke to him and myself and nothing was done about it. I switched shifts so that it would not happen to me again. But I was then the target of retaliation with him. I could do no wrong or I would be written up or even worse FIRED. Which it did end up happening to me later on but I wasn't worried because I was hired on by another company that was great. With this being said, my manager handled this situation all wrong. He handled it in a discriminatory manner in my eyes. He ended up fired before he could retire and get his pension for misconduct later. That is why it is important for managers to use good decision making skills. If he would have made the decision to keep the relationship between him and his employees strictly professional then he would have not been in the situation to have to explain why he left the hospital liable by not having adequate staff available for stat and timed draws.
