The World Bank and the International Money Fund (IMF) both estimate the amount transferred through hawalas may be up to 50% more than what has been recorded for remittances through hawalas. By the end of 2019, documented global remittances were estimated to have reached $550 billion, which totals three times the amount of foreign aid. Is this an exhaustive list by what we know in 2022 as it relates to the ratio of hawalas? If so, why or why not?
