The XYZ Company is in a no-win situation. Their customer is insisting that the EAR system be delivered by a decreed date. Having no extra time in the schedule, engineering management decided to cancel development of what were some exciting new technological innovations on the EAR system. These innovations consisted of the following:

An Advanced Intelligent Signal Hopping Unit (AISHU)

A Plasma Radium Frequency Scrambler (PRFS)

An Argon Radio Signature Analyzer (ARSA)

Project Status

Management called a special meeting of all staff to announce the cuts. The engineering staff recognized that cutting these technologies will present significant replanning difficulties. Furthermore, there are no easy substitutes for the innovative technologies planned to be implemented, and at the very least, all of the interfaces associated with their functional replacements will have to be reanalyzed, and possibly redesigned and reimplemented. They have called in an expert team to help with the replanning areas that will be needed.

Task

You are a member of the team that has been called in to help with the analysis of impact for the technology cuts. Your job is to provide a description of the engineering implications of this situation with respect to the CMMI process areas. Although there are many managerial and project planning issues, you have been asked to focus particularly on the engineering- related aspects of the problem.
