TheJourney Our Food Travels

The path that products take to get from the place where they are conceptualized, manufactured, and made all the way to the store that you purchase them from is an intricate and often complicated one.And while this path may not be something that you regularly consider when purchasing products, perhaps it should be!

The many channels that products travel through before making it into the hands of the consumer depend on a variety of factors and many of these factors come with ethical considerations. While it can sometimes be difficult to trace the path that certain products travel to get to us, the consumers, there has recently been a big push for understanding where our food comes from.Perhaps you've heard the term 'farm to table'?This farm to table trend speaks to this desire to develop a better understanding of where the items that we use (or eat) come from and how they get to us.

For this activity, you will explore the many journeys that our food takes to get from the 'farm' to our table by examining the following website:

Here's What to Do

Choose one appropriate article featured on this website and read it carefully. After you have read and understood the article of your choosing, you will take what you learned and turn it into an infographic/posterin other words, you will be translating the written word into something visual.

Let your imagination run wild in creating your infographic; feel free to use photos, graphs, charts, graphics, and small snippets of text to help convey and express the main points of the article you chose. The goal is that if someone were to view your infographic/poster (without having read the article) they would be able to understand and learn about the topic and main points of the article.

You may infographic/poster in a slideshow presentation program, a word processing program, or by hand on poster board. If you choose to by hand, please be sure to take plenty of clear photos of your work to submit for grading.

After completing your infographic/poster, please write three to five paragraphs connecting the dots between the Take Part website, the article you read, and the information that you learned in the unit about channel management and shipping methods. The goal of this writing should be to clearly and concisely explain how these three items all relate to one another.

Please submit a link to the article you chose, links to any additional online research that you may have done, your infographic/poster, and your written reflection for grading. For more information on how you will be graded, please refer to the rubric below.
