There are lots of things happening within US Labor Markets. For this week's discussion find a recent article, within the past few years, describing a labor action in the US.

It should be easy to find something!

Here in Hawaii the Hawaiian airlines employees have picketed in attempts to gain higher wages, a few years ago we had a large hotel worker strike, and more recently Kaiser mental health workers were on strike seeking conditions that would allow them to better serve their patients needs. There have been interesting developments with Amazon warehouse workers trying to unionize on the mainland. And the there was the threat of a railroad worker strike that would have caused serious economic consequences, the President had to step in to help avoid that one!

The topic of minimum wage has been sweeping the nation. Many states and some major cities have passed minimum wage rates much higher than the national rate of $7.25 an hour. And since COVID there has been a shift in attitude among some workers who simply don't want to stay at a job that does not pay well and value their contributions. You may be able to find interesting articles about changes in the labor market caused by COVID-19.

It has been fascinating to watch how public pressure over the past several years, sometimes lead by Bernie Sanders, has cause several large corporations to raise the wages that they pay. I think you should be able to find articles about wage increases by Amazon, Walmart, Disney, Wells Fargo, and others.

Then there is the topic of immigration. Does the US need to let in more immigrants? Do they fill jobs that employers would otherwise struggle to fill? Would Hawaii have enough nurses if we didn't allow nurses to immigrate from the Philippines? What happens when ICE raids a food packing or processing plant and takes away the workers?

Provide enough detail from your article to give your fellow students a good understanding of what happened and how it happened. Also provide a link so they can read more if they are interested.
