Set point deviation is where the controller does not become active/kick-in until the system value goes outside a band of values centered around the set point. This mode of control can also be combined with hysteresis time. For this controller mode, as the sensor value exits the set point deviation band, the PID controller does not "kick-in" until a certain time later. This time is called the "hysteresis time."
