I thinkpreventing and responding to computer fraudis important for accountants to posses knowledge, and my five reasons as following:

  • IT-related fraud and abuse are growing concerns for most organizations. Hacking, data thefts and large-scale fraud are now all-too-common occurrences. Those threats affect governments, businesses of every kind, and individuals. Because there are more computer fraud and abuse, it is essential for accountants to posses knowledge to prevent and respond to computer fraud.
  • Sixty-two percent of U.S. respondents say they have considered the risk associated with technology-based fraud, while 54% of respondents are confident they have the appropriate policies and internal controls needed to reduce the risk of IT-related fraud to an appropriate level. Fifty-five percent know what to do in the event that a fraudulent incident does occur. Half (50%) are confident they have the policies needed to detect and mitigate potential IT-related abuse. The responses indicate that accounting professionals are aware that they and their clients/employers can be particularly vulnerable to identify theft, hacking and other cybercrime.
  • The auditors play a vital role in detecting, preventing and reporting computer frauds. Auditors who specialize in fraud auditing and investigations are known as the forensic accountants. The forensic accountants are auditors trained in Information Technology Security Control Knowledge. These specialized auditors need to detect and prevent frauds to protect the information system of an organization. Auditors have to make use of fraud prevention techniques by making fraud less likely to occur, by increasing the level of difficulty for committing frauds by improving detection methods, by reducing fraud losses and finally identifying sufficient appropriate audit evidence to sentence fraud perpetrators with penalties upon the white-collar crimes.
  • Accounting professionals should become familiar with several ways to monitor activity, including theuse of automation. Intrusion prevention systems aredesigned to monitor networks and/or systems formalicious activity. Similarly, intrusion detection systemsmonitor attempted intrusions, or policy violations. These tools produce real-time reports. Intrusionprevention and detection software (IDPS) has become avaluable addition to the security infrastructure of mostorganizations.
  • Accounting fraud has been prevalent in the popular press for the past several years. The accounting profession has begun to stress the importance of ethics because of this negative press. Some state boards of accountancy have begun requiring ethics courses as part of continuing education to maintain certification and licensing. Many accounting frauds are in the form of computer crime. Accounting students must be made aware of various types of frauds, including computer crimes, how frauds are prevented and detected, and why ethics are important in the accounting profession.

Just make some examples. No words limited. Pref Discussion style.
