There is an auto-theft trend in which individuals seeking to steal vehicles enter (occupied) residences in order to locate key fobs and valuables. The suspect(s) then attempt to leave in one or more of the victim's vehicles. There are many juveniles involved in these crimes as well. Discuss the investigative considerations in addressing occupied residential burglaries. In particular, review and apply relevant New Jersey Criminal Statutes pertaining to theft, burglary, motor vehicles, and/or robbery to these incidents. Also discuss any limitations to charging (including juveniles) and any recommendations you have towards addressing this growing issue.
