Question 4. Recall the set-up for question 1 on Written Assignment 1 ("the tipi problem"): One person ("the observer") puts their eyes to the ground "a decent distance" from the tipi, and another person ("the stander") stands between the observer and the tipi so that, to the observer, the top of the stander's head lines up with the top of the tipi (where the poles meet). Now assume that the observer starts walking away from the tipi at a rate of 2 m/s (head still on the ground). So the stander now must move so that their head still appears to line up for the observer. (1) What rate must the "stander" move to keep staying in the right relative position for the observer? (use any measurements from the posted solutions to WA1.)

here is the question it is referring to and the correct measurements

Question 1. In this question you will compute the height of the tipi (up to where the wooden poles meet) in front of Maanjiwe nendamowinan (which is an Anishnaabemowin phrase meaning \"gathering of minds\"). You will need: At least one other person to help you with this question, and having three people is even better. Something to measure distances. (e.g. A tape measure) Note. of your solution, and (2) include the names of all people you worked with in your group. For this question you are encouraged to work in groups, but please (1) submit your own individual write-up Note. Please respect the space. All of this activity should be done outside the tipi. You do not need to touch, enter, or climb the tipi. You and your group should gather your minds (and bodies) in ont of the tipi. Have one person (\"the observer\") sit \"a decent distance" from the tipi, and put your head to the ground and look towards the top of the tipi, where the poles meet. Don't move! Have another person (\"the stander\") stand in between the the observer and the tipi so that it appears to the observer that the stander and the tipi are the same height. The stander might need to move forward or backward to make this happen. Once you've found the right spot, stop moving. Have a third person (\"the measurer\") measure (1) the distance on the ground from the observer to the stander, and (2) the distance from the stander to the base of the tipi. Now you can all move again! Measure the circumference of the tipi. Gather your minds and bodies back in the foyer of Maanjiwe nendamowinan and use all your measurements (and similar triangles) to campute the height of the tipi. Oh, yOu'll also need to know the height of the stander! Solution. I did this with my friend Ivan and I measured using my shoe lengths (which are exactly 1 foot, or 0.3 m, long). My measurements: (1} Ivan stood 52 steps from the base of the tipi. (2} I observed 26 steps away from Ivan. (3} The tipi was 104 steps around. (4} Ivan is 6 steps high. (5} One step is approximately 0.3 metres. This means that the tipi's base has: circumference = 21rr = 104 steps so the radius is 104 T = 217 steps ts 16.5 steps 'A 6 \\''104 j 52 2 So then the distance from me (the observer) to the center of the base of the tipi is 26 steps + 52 steps + 16.5 steps = 94.5 steps So then by similar triangles height of Ivan height of tipi distance from observer to Ivan _ distance from observer to tipi centre Therefore (height of Ivan ) - ( distance from observer to tipi centre) _ 6(945) distance from observer to Ivan 26 height of tipi = = 21.8 steps In other words, the tipi is roughly 3.5 times the height of my friend Ivan. In metres, the tipi has height approximately {21.8 steps )[D.3m/ step ) a 6.5m. I think this seems reasonable; I expected a positive answer larger than 2 metres (around my friend's height), but smaller than 20 metres (by imagining a long stack of metre sticks)
