Instructions- Read the passage below. There will be three questions below to help guide you in writing your response. So, if you were the counselor what would your response be to the teacher?

1st QUESTION/PART ONE

Mrs. Smith is a teacher at your high school. You have asked her to come to your office to describe Alicia's progress in her class.

Mrs. Smith (Teacher) response:So, you. Want me to talk to you about this one student and I just don't know what you want me to say. She is always late if she comes in at all. She doesn't participate when she is in class. She's been behind in everything for at least three weeks. I just don't know what else to do. I have a policy you can get one free pass a semester. You can use that pass to hand something in you or you can use it to redo a project and she's already used the pass, so I don't know what else I can do. There's nothing else I can do. She's going to fail.

Question 1- Did you advocate for academic leniency and academic support based on the needs associated with the crisis/trauma?

Question 2- Did you support your request with information concerning effective collaboration and consultation?

Question 3-Was your response empathetic, but direct?

Imagine that a request for academic leniency was requested by another counselor at your school. Mrs. Smith(teacher) has now come into your office to vent about your coworker.

Mrs. Smith (Teacher) response:I am just upset with your colleague. The other counselor came in and we discussed the student. This person just wants me to throw out everything that I do, the whole way that I teach. I don't understand this person. The student is consistently late, they're not always in class when they are here. They don't participate. Papers and projects are handed in late, and this counselor wants me to be lenient with them. I don't understand. I don't get why. I have to change my entire way of teaching. Even though I explained it at the beginning of the year, everyone gets the same pass. Everyone gets the same rules. I don't know what I have to revamp the whole thing just for this one student.
