These are my Research Questions : How is Big Data being used by companies to target ads and influence people's opinions? How do companies collect data on people? what types of data do companies collect ? how do companies use data to target ads? What are the privacy concerns surrounding Big Data ? How does the use of Big Data by companies impact people's lives ? I selected a topic called Big Data that's related to information literacy then i went to guides.lib.odu.edu/infolitresearch where i selected one specific resource from the link in the information literacy research guide, the title of the research that i selected is Data Brokers Are A Threat To Democracy.
For this assignment read the provided information ablove i gave about my research questions & use odu library/guides.lib.odu.edu/infolitresearchthen answer each questions : Part One: Research Question and Multidisciplinary Database * Write out your approved research question and underline or highlight the main concepts of your research question. Here's an example: What are food desertsand how do they impact the healthof elderly peoplewho live in them? * Select one of the following multidisciplinary databases from ODU Libraries' A-Z database list: Academic Search Complete or JSTOR(or try both)! Write the database that you selected in this space. Part Two: Concepts, Keywords, Connectors, and Phrasing. * In the chart below, write down the three main concepts of your research question. Main Concepts 1stkey concept AND 2ndkey concept AND 3rdkey concept * In the space below, write out a search strategy (what you will type in the database search box) that uses the AND connector, quotation marks for phrases, and your three main concepts. Then, try the search in the database that you selected. * Write down the number of records that you retrieved from the first search. Do the results look useful and relevant to your topic? If so, how, if not, why not? (Note: think about quality VS quantity. A search that yields thousands of results may not be useful if the results are too broad) * In the chart below, in the first column write your original key concepts. In the second column, write down 3 synonyms for the original key concepts/keywords. If you can't think of synonyms, go back to the module for tips on coming up with keywords. 1stkeyword OR 2ndkeyword (synonym) 1stkey concept OR 2ndkey concept OR 3rdkey concept OR * In the space below, write out a search strategy (what you will type in the database search box) that correctly uses the AND connector, the OR connector (with parenthesesused correctly), quotation marks for phrases, and at least two of the synonyms. Then, try the search in the database that you selected. (NOTE: if you do not know how to use parentheseswith the OR connector, go back and view the videos provided in the module on database search strategy) * Write down the number of records that you retrieved from the first search. Do the results look useful and relevant to your topic? If so, how, if not, why not? * Create one more search strategy using at least two keywords and other strategies as needed based on what you have learned so far. Write your search strategy (exactly what you typed into the search box(es) below and the number of results retrieved. Your Search Strategy (exactly what you typed into the search box(es): Number of results retrieved: Part Three: Reflection * Reflection Question: Which search strategy worked best in the multidisciplinary database and why did it work better compared to the other two? Be specific. * Research Question Update: Based on what you found in your searches, did your research question change or stay the same? Why or why not? If your research question changed, why did it change, and what is your new research question?
