Think of something in your work or personal life that you measure regularly. (No actual calculation of the mean, standard deviation, or z-scores is necessary.) What value is "average"? What values would you consider to be unusually high or unusually low? If a value were unusually high or lowhow would it change your response to the measurement?
Monthly expenses is something I regularly monitor. I make it a habit to limit trips to the supermarket at least 2-3 times a month. Every two to three weeks I do a big shopping haul of groceries, toiletries, etc. that would sustain us for 2-3 weeks until our next shopping trip. On average I would say we spend about $250. Out of 12 months of the year, I would notice that 4 months we would go over our average mean. I have notice that this is usually during summer breaktime and around holiday seasons. This is usually a trend for our family grocery and household supply expenses.
