Job Title: 747 First Officer
FLSA Status: Exempt
Supervisory Responsibilities: Serves in lead capacity over flight attendants And Chief Purser during flight.
Job Summary: Under general direction of captain serves as aircraft Second in Command while flying passengers and cargo in a Boeing 747-400 to international and domestic destinations under the direction of the Captain.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Completes pre-flight procedures including a ramp-level circuit of the aircraft to check the physical condition of pertinent items such as tires, engine nacelles, probes, antennas, wheel wells, fire bottles, and oxygen strut inflation.
Previews pertinent information for each flight including load, weight, fuel supply, weather conditions, take-off speed, flight route and schedule.
Files instrument flight plans with air traffic control to ensure that flights are coordinated with other air traffic.
Completes cockpit set-up items including checking levels of oil, hydraulic fluid, fuel quantities and cabin pressure.
Reviews recent aircraft write-ups detailing recent repairs or deferred repairs.
Provides notices to airmen regarding any inoperative equipment at the airport.
Maintains contact with control towers for takeoff clearances, arrival instructions, changes in altitude and other information, using radio equipment.
Starts engines and taxies airplane to runway. Sets brakes, and accelerates engines to verify operational readiness of components.
Releases brakes and moves throttles and hand and foot controls to take-off and control airplane in flight.
Utilizes autopilot during flight while monitoring instrument panel for fuel supply, engine condition and other flight systems.
Pilots airplane to destination adhering to flight plan and regulations and procedures of federal government, company, and airport.
Functions in a lead capacity over flight attendants and Chief Purser while in flight.
Makes announcements regarding flights, using public address systems.
Writes and files a report of the trip with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Reports any safety violations including incidents or accidents to direct supervisor.
Attends two, three-day training sessions per year.
Specifications (Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities): Knowledge of Federal Air Regulations, aircraft systems, domestic and international air traffic control procedures. Skills in decision making, conflict resolution, air traffic communication. Ability to fly a Boeing 747-400 aircraft including take-off and landing.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or GED;
A minimum of 1500 hours of flying experience;
At least 23 years of age;
Experience flying at night and on instruments alone;
Previous experience flying a Boeing 747-400 aircraft.
Certificates/Licenses Requires:
Licensed as an Airline Transport Pilot with a Multi-Engine Rating. FAA medical approval certificate.
Physical and Mental Demands:
Ability to stay awake and alert for extended flights which may cross different time zones. Ability to sit for extended periods. Ability to endure mental stress related to responsibilities and consequences of error
Work Environment:
Pressurized cabin environment. Dark, dry air with constant background noise. Variable work schedule with considerable overnight travel required.

Any nurse who smokes, uses liquor in any form, gets her hair done at a beauty shop, or frequents dance halls will give the hospital director good reason to suspect her worth intentions and integrity.
The nurse who performs her labors and serves her patients and doctors faithfully and without fault for a period of five years will be given an increase by the hospital administration of five cents a day, provided there are no hospital debts that are outstanding.
