This DNP project is about theEffect of Meal Photography on the Self-Management Practice of Diet among Women with Pre-Diabetes. The student is exploring efforts to reinforce diet strategies for women with pre-diabetes to prevent DM type 2.

Instead of having patient log their meals into diaries, she is utilizing software to allow the participants to photograph their meals before and after eating, that analyzes the amounts. As diaries are vulnerable to self-report and take time to write it all done, the pictures are faster to implement. The literature review demonstrates the issues with diaries and the benefits of the photographs.

Clinical Question: When promoting self-monitoring of food practices, are electronic-based versions of meal logging more useful and convenient compared to traditional pen and paper journaling?

Project Purposes:1. Assess the feasibility of a mobile-based, digital photography food diary application for obese women 30-55 yrs.2. Evaluate if meal photography is associated with changes in weight, BMI, waist circumference reduction, and lower A1c and fasting glucose values. 3. Determineif meal photography increases self-monitoring satisfaction, reduces burden, and improves self-efficacy

Outcome measures: Self-efficacy, anthropometric and clinicallab values will be analysis pre- and post-intervention. Post intervention assessment of perceived burden, satisfaction and feasibility for continued use.
