This is a general question, nothing is missing, and no data is needed. Please read my statement below about Relationship Ethical Responsibilities and let me know in detail if you would agree with it. Why or Why not.

The ethical responsibilities for the VA and the CID is for the care of the victim and the case. Having a personal relationship while the investigation is on-going can jeopardize it and at worst a mistrial/case drop. This leads to the ethical responsibility of recognizing the interest of the victim as a primary responsibility. This also should be reported to the SARC as it is a conflict of interest that could lead to the impartial treatment of the victim.

To prevent this situation from happening, I would have to take a step back and look at it from an outside perspective. Seeing two individuals working on the same case, especially when one is investigating the case and the other is the advocate for the victim, is definitely not in the best interest for the victim. When you realize that this situation is becoming more and more involved with the other person, you have to take a step back and let the other party know that what they are doing is wrong and that they must not continue their relationship. The key to this scenario is self awareness, being able to look out for the best interest of the victim comes before yourself.

Lastly, to resolve this situation in an ethical manner, is best to inform the SARC of the situation. Though you may get in trouble, or reprimanded, the number one interest as stated earlier is the victim. Informing the SARC allows the victim to still have a case and not have it compromised due to your lack of Duty.
