Problem 1.2 - The motion of a pendulum. Lets consider a relatively straight-forward example of a second-order IVP. If I hold a pendulum at an initially horizontal (parallel to the ground) position at an angle ?-?/2 radians (from the vertical) and let go, what will happen? The pendulum wil begin to swing downwards, as gravity takes effect. When it swings down past 0 radians (hanging vertically downwards) it will slow down but keep travelling upwards, as gravity tries to arrest its upwards momentum Problem 1.2 - The motion of a pendulum.
