For this memo, pretend you are Denisa Yoon-Sedhev, Vice President, Product Development for Modus Biosystems. You recently heard rumors that Linda Hicks, Modus' Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer is thinking about cutting the amount of funding currently allocated to product development and moving it to the sales team instead, in order to try to bring in more revenue.

Your task for this memo is to create an argument for why you think the current funding levels should not be cut. In your argument, be sure to use the 'Modus Tollens' argument form, and ask her to get back to you with a final decision.

Remember that in Modus Tollens we are denying the consequent (saying that Q does not hold), so using the same wording in premise 1 and 2 will help make the argument as clear as it can be.

In the textbook example, the keywords "needed your help" and "called you" are directly substitutable for "P" and Q", which also makes "Not Q" (I didn't call you) very clear. But in the few early memo submissions I have glanced at so far, the possibility for the same direct substitution is not as clear. Some memos try to use different words to express the same idea, which makes things more complicated than they need to be, and in some cases actually means the argument is no longer a modus tollens argument.

Thus, please keep your modus tollens as simple as possible by using clear, short key words/terms for the differing variables. "
