This is an interesting debate regarding juvenile courts' involvement with status offenders considering that there are both positive and negative effects that could change the course of the juvenile's life. I think I am for having juvenile courts be involved with status offenders considering that although they are not criminals, they may have other factors contributing to their behavior that juvenile courts could help resolve with rehabilitation programs or counseling. Juvenile courts could also prevent or deter status offenders from becoming criminal offenders later or provide an outlet for the juvenile to receive help early on regarding underlying issues. I can also see the other side of the debate regarding juvenile court involvement since it may give the status offender a stigma or label them which can alter their behavior negatively moving forward. It is important to differentiate between status offenders and delinquents since they are two different juvenile offenses and I think the benefits outweigh the negative when considering the involvement of juvenile courts with status offenders.
