Continuing on with my problem from last week, I am interested in the population mean of how many hours a week an American spends working. | asked this question a few weeks back, and I have since asked it again during the week of Thanksgiving. I wonder if Americans will work less on a holiday week. As such, I would like to compare the average number of hours an American spends working on a normal week, versus a holiday week. Note that I care about comparing the population means, but only have sample data available to me. This is because I do not have access to the entire population of working Americans. Also note that I am only testing if Americans work less hours during a holiday week. Because of this, my hypotheses are Claim: [.11 > u2 H0:u15 u2 HA:u1>u2 Here, [11 is the average weekly hours worked on a normal week, and [12 is the average on a holiday week. Both are population parameters because I am trying to draw a conclusion beyond my sample. The Problem To test this hypothesis, I will use data from I gathered on facebook weeks ago when I asked people how many hours they worked that week, and the new data I gathered from facebook when | asked people how many hours they worked this week, the week of thanksgiving.
