This is the last Extra-credit opportunity! Youll receive 4 points for it. Read the background information and instructions very carefully.
First, some backgrounds:
For this task, two students will roleplay in a negotiation scenario to practice using this negotiation method (the PRAM model we have just discussed). You can either work with a classmate or with someone else outside of this class. If you work with a classmate, both of you must turn in the reports (as described below). Please find description of the negotiation scenario below:
This is a simulated negotiation between an employer (represented by a human resource manager) and a job candidate. Two students will negotiate with each other. One will play the role of the human resource manager and the other will play the role of the job candidate. There are seven issues to be negotiated. Each player will be provided a role information sheet with details about his/her role (either as the human resource manager or the job candidate). The instruction sheets are attached (Negotiation Exercise_HR Manager.docxOpen this document with ReadSpeaker docReader Open this document with ReadSpeaker docReader, Negotiation Exercise - Job Candidate.docxOpen this document with ReadSpeaker docReader Open this document with ReadSpeaker docReader)
The players must then apply the PRAM model to negotiate with the other party with the goal to either (a) win (by gaining more points see the instruction sheets for details), or (b) maximize the outcome for both parties (i.e., total number of points for both parties). Note that in the above-mentioned two options, option (b) represents the desirable outcome for integrative bargaining.
Now, lets talk about what you have to do for this extra-credit opportunity:
Again, you need to work with another student in this negotiation exercise. Each of you should choose a role to play, either as a human resource manager or a job candidate, then read the Instruction sheet specific for that role. After reading the information, you should do the following to earn the extra-credit (4 points):
1) Using the information sheet for the role you chose, plan your negotiation (by referring to the Plans step in slide 17) by:
1a) For each issue (out of seven issues shown in the Payoff Table in the second page of the information sheet), identifying your initial offer (by marking 1 next to the chosen option in the payoff table), target point (marking 2), and resistance points (3).
1b) Taking note of your BATNA (your BATNA is reported in the information sheet at the bottom of page 2); Then Report it.
2) Negotiate with your partner and report the outcomes by using the Negotiation Exercise - Contract.docxOpen this document with ReadSpeaker docReader Open this document with ReadSpeaker docReader (make sure to report the number of points each party receive for each issue and the total points)
3) Use the information sheets for BOTH ROLES to identify the types of issues as described in Slide 16. Specifically, specify which issues are Distributive,Compatible, or Integrative.
In your submission for this extra-credit, you should address all the above points. For point1 and 3 above, you may use the Table in the information sheet for your chosen role then add your notes accordingly.
