Automation $-$ computer controlled, robotics, etc. $-$ has many positives, but is also expensive and not suited for all production situations.

Your company makes diagnostic equipment used by other manufacturers to test products. Orders are for $10-100$ units at a time. Each order is customised to fit the needs of the buyer.

Is full automation suitable for you? What about partial automation? Or should you used skilled labour and manual equipment to make your product?
