Problem statement The proportional-integral-controlled stirred tank heater system (STH), is shown in the Fig. 1.0. The tank is initially operating at steady state with the following conditions. Figure 1.0 Integral-controlled STH Figure 2 Step increase in inlet temperature Table 1STH operatin conditinns and narameters During operation, some of the process variables (disturbances) can fluctuate and affect the operation of the Stirred tank heater. One such variable is the feed temperature. For a particular case where feed temperature increases from a steady state of Tis=20C to 50C, it is desired to control the STH temperature using proportional plus integral control. In this assignment, you are required to perform the following: a) For a given integral-time and controller gain, predict the response of the STH temperature (use either inline or function and script file method). b) Investigate the effect of the controller tuning parameters 'controller gain and integral time' on the stirred tank heater response. c) Validate the results in (c) using Simulink.
