This summative assessment will give me an accurate understanding of the students who are struggling with adding and subtracting fractions with denominators of 10 and 100 using equivalent fractions. The purpose of summative assessments is to "determine whether students have learned what they were expected to learn." (Great Schools Partnership, 2013). After weeks of practicing how to find equivalent fractions, and adding and subtracting fractions, I created this summative assessment to show me where the child is falling behind. Summative assessments are "used to inform modifications to instructional techniques, lesson designs, or teaching materials the next time a course, unit, or lesson is taught." (Great Schools Partnership, 2013). The information from the summative assessment will also help me determine whether my current plan of instruction is working for students. If most of the class doesn't perform well, that'll be an indication I need to change things up. reword this
