This Ted Talk by Taiye Selasi was pretty interesting overall and I agree with what she says "As a unit of measurement for human experience, the country doesn't quite work". Taiye Selasi also proposes a unique, three-step process known as the "three R's": rituals, relationships, and restrictions. With this 3 part process, we can see, for instance, that our rituals are with us everywhere we go, how it builds up our characters, enforces our relationships, and influences how we interact with the people around us and closest to us. After our lecture and the video, I feel that while you are born in one specific place/country, you still may be "shaped" by a culture that may not necessarily be native to that country, which is why if we look at the concept of a country, it doesn't seem like a reasonable proxy for culture.
