This week, I want us to engage in a discussion about Team Culture by using what you've learned from Chapters 9-11.

Scenario:An athlete comes to you with expressed concern about how coaches and teammates communicate about the recent decline of success on the team. Teammates believe that the coaches do not respect them because they are getting yelled at more regularly in practices. Coaches make comparisons of athletes when expressing approval and disapproval of performance. The athlete that has come to you is a team captain and is concerned about players on the team quitting if things do not get rectified. Use the following prompts to suggest how you might intervene with this team. (Remember, you want to refer to specifics that you've learned in chapters 9-11.)

1. What is the most critical element that you would want to first address in regards to improving cohesion on this team? Explain your choice.
2. Considering the element mentioned above, what is one technique you would use to improve this team's climate? Explain your choice.
3. How would you advise the team's coaches to learn about the values of their team members in order to build healthy values for the team?
4. What principles of managing energy would you want to see the coaches focus on?
5. How would you explain and implement the sandwich approach to the coaches when advising on constructive criticism?
6. What qualities would you want to strengthen amongst the team captains in order to help foster healthy leadership support for their teammates?
