This week's reading discusses Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks are a particularly concerning subset of DoS attacks because DDoS attacks are extremely difficult to stop. There are often hundreds, if not thousands of systems simultaneously attacking a single target.

On October 21, 2016, the Domain Name Service (DNS) provider Dyn was the victim of a DDoS attack that resulted in outages impacting many high profile websites and was described in by some as taking down "half of the internet".

Using at least three resources that you find online, including at least one article with a technical focus and one news article describe the following:

- What devices were used to carry out the attack?

- How were those devices compromised?

- What type of attack was used?

- Why was the impact so widespread?

- Any non-technical background information you can find (e.g., where the malware came from, who was using it, who were the perpetrators and victims and what were the consequences)
