Three distinctive leadership styles are acquiescence, aggression, and assertiveness. The first, acquiescence, is a passive style in which something is accepted and not countered or challenged (Cartwright, 2019). For example, I have seen acquiescence in leadership when it came to department process changes that should have been challenged by the managers who knew who these changes would negatively affect, but they didn't because they didn't want to make waves. Second, aggression is when someone is harsh, intimidating, and confrontational and often has difficulty admitting fault (Interns, n.d.). I worked for a manager who had an aggressive leadership style and would often place all the blame on the support staff when goals were not met and would then hold meetings to explain how it was not management's fault, but the support staff's fault the turnover for this team was extremely high as no one felt supported or appreciated. Finally, assertiveness is being concise, direct, and respectful, using a strong voice when needed (Interns, n.d.). I think assertiveness is the best of the three if it is done with respectfulness and appropriateness. I have seen some great examples of assertiveness in my current position of leadership. A recent example was when we were discussing a project and everyone had a chance to speak up, we discussed options as a team, and our leader was able to get us all on the same page by acknowledging our concerns but then providing a clear direction and reasoning for how we were expected to move forward. || Female leaders are often held to higher standards, particularly regarding their leadership style and ttitude. Women in leadership who are assertive \"may be perceived as less warm and likable than a woman with traditional feminine traits\" and \"receive negative evaluations and discriminatory treatment\" (Galsanjigmed and Sekiguchim 2023). I've seen the difference in perception of female and male adership firsthand in all my jobs, from retail to office work. Male leaders get taken seriously, are raised, and people are less offended when they are assertive, event towards the point of aggressive, hile a female who makes the same comments or decisions gets called mean or frigid.
