ThunderPost is a renowned courier, parcel and express mail service in West Malaysia. Due to its successful postal related service, ThunderPost has a huge number of customers. The management of the company has decided to expand its service in West Malaysia to reach up to East Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak).
As the Senior Network Engineer in ThunderPost, you are required to prepare a report on the networking infrastructure between ThunderPosts headquarters and its 16 branches located in each state (total of 13) and federal territory (total of 3).
- Provide the background of the company including the business operations (eg. running 24/7) and the needs (eg. secure environment for its staffs and clients) of the company.
- Propose a solution for the LAN network infrastructure of the companys headquarters (minimum FIVE floors) which is in Selangor. It is important to justify what you have proposed. Example of proposed solutions are (but not restricted to):
- Networking devices (e.g. bridge, switch, AP, router, gateway)
- Topology (e.g. bus, star, ring)
- Communication media (e.g. coaxial cable, UTP, STP, fibre optics, WiFi)
- Propose a solution for the WAN network infrastructure of the companys stations (all 16 branches and one headquarters are to be connected together). It is important to justify what you have proposed. Example of proposed solutions are (but not restricted to):
- Networking devices (e.g. core router, L3 switch)
- Connections (e.g. T1, X.25, ATM, SONET, MPLS)
- Network services (e.g. 99.99% network connectivity, redundant connectivity, undisturbed high-speed access, traffic shaping, load balancing, backup sites)
You are also required to provide network diagrams and IP addressing scheme using any software for creating a network diagram (Do NOT use Microsoft Office applications. Suggestions: Network Notepad, CADE, Dia and Diagram Designer).
- Illustrate a network diagram for the companys headquarters (minimum FIVE floors). (Please do not copy from any source)
- Provide an IP addressing scheme for the companys headquarters for all floors using subnetting. You may use any private IP address class (10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255, 172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255 or 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255). Each floor is to have its own subnet.
- Illustrate a network diagram for the connection between all 16 branches and the headquarters. (Please do not copy from any source)
