As you will see when collecting the data, the items requested are only a small subset of the information available from these sources, so the project is intended to acquaint you with these sources. You may find them to be valuable information sources when making future personal investment decisions. You are to obtain the following information about a stock mutual fund and a bond mutual fund. I have assigned each of you a stock fund and a bond fund. Ticker symbols for the assigned firms are in the Blackboard grade book. Two excellent sources of information are Morningstar and Yahoo Finance. I would like for you to get the stock fund information from Morningstar and the bond fund information from Yahoo Finance (although you will see that Yahoo gets some of its information from Morningstar). Stock Fund: Using the assigned ticker symbol shown in the Blackboard grade book, collect the stock fund information from the Morningstar Investment Research Center, available on line from the UNT libraries. At the library home page, click on Databases, enter Morningstar, and then enter the ticker provided to you. Make a table of the information below and enter the values you find on the screen. (Just so there is no misunderstanding, you should use your word processor to create a table with borders, a header with title, a source statement with date, etc.) Do not just paste the entire document from the source. Document your source by printing out the screens from the website showing the following information, convert to PDF format and submit along with the table. Fund Manager Name: (if more than one manager, just list the first) Fund Manager's start date Fund Investment Style (e.g. Large growth, etc.) Fund inception date (found under the Management tab) Current NAV (show the date also) Net Assets For the next three items, annualized returns in percent are shown in the \"Fund\" row in the \"Performance\" section. Year-to-date return Three-year return Five-year return Rank in category, 5 year Beta (vs. the best fit index) Turnover Minimum initial investment Amount of front-end load, if any (expressed as a percent of assets under management) Amount of back-end (deferred) load, if any 12b-1 fees Management fees Net expense ratio Largest holding, name and portfolio fraction in percent Morningstar rating (stars) Fund phone number Fund website Bond Fund: Using the assigned ticker symbol from the Blackboard grade book, access the bond fund information on the Yahoo Finance website. You can access the data by entering your assigned ticker in the Yahoo Finance \"Search\" box. Fund manager's name Fund manager's start date Fund investment style (e.g. short term bond, etc.) Current NAV (show the date also) Net Assets For the next three items use the \"Trailing Returns vs. Benchmarks\" numbers Year-to-date return Three-year return Five-year return Rank in category, 5 year Beta Turnover Minimum initial investment Amount of front-end load, if any (expressed as a percent of assets under management) Amount of back-end (deferred) load, if any 12b-1 Fees Expense ratio Largest holding, name and percent of portfolio Bond credit quality ratings Morningstar rating (stars) Duration Missing Data If you find that there is a significant amount of missing data for the fund(s) assigned to you (more that three required items), email me and I will assign you a different fund. Please check the data availability in a timely manner; a new fund will not be assigned for requests made on the due date. Submitting the Project Combine the stock and bond data into one submission, don't submit them separately. There should be separate tables for the stock information and the bond information. You can just attach the documentation as an appendix to the tables. There is an assignment tool in the project folder that you can use to submit your project. Only files in PDF, Word, or Excel format will be accepted and graded
