To: Chief William Ricco From: Officer Lydia Sasaki Subject: Surveillance Convention Date: August 11, 2020 I have received a letter of invitation from the Association of Certified Surveillance Professionals in reference to a convention being held by the association June 11-14, 2021, in Albuquerque. This convention will offer a comprehensive training program in the operation of acoustic gunfire detection systems. Instructors at the convention consist of surveillance and security specialists from all over the world and the United States. I am respectfully requesting travel funds to attend the convention in order to represent our department. There are workshops at the convention that deal with the establishment of gunfire detection systems by police departments. There are also two preconvention courses that are being conducted specifically on acoustic surveillance. These are the AS Certification Course and the AS Maintenance Course, both on June 11.The remaining workshops and training sessions will be held June 12-14. The workshops include: Equipment selection Sensor placement Legal issues Service and maintenance Community relations Critical incident evaluation Urban obstacles Acoustic gun signature Triangulation and multilateration Acoustic based patriling Video surveillance interaction Incident achieving As soon as we have the ability to acquire a gunfire detection system, it will be necessary for the department to obtain all of the facts regarding acoustic surveillance and to examine what other departments have done to implement and operate their systems. Attached to this memo is a copy of the letter I received from ACSP. In this letter are the details for registration, travel, and accommodations for individuals attending the convention.
