To Teach or Not to Teach?
Is secondary education a dying degree? This project will focus on studying high school educators' ages and level of education in order to objectively determine if these factors may be keeping high school and college students from majoring in secondary education. Through this research we aim to shed light on what is causing a shortage of new secondary education majors.
In this project, we will be focused on the following two questions: what level of degree do high school teachers hold, and what is the average age of high school teachers? In order to answer these questions, we will be surveying forty teachers who work at High School A. Responses will be collected by hand and then later organized with technology, specifically Microsoft Excel. Analysis will be performed on the data collected in order to better understand the current makeup of a secondary high school staff.
From this project, we found that 70% of the teachers hold a bachelor's degree as their highest level of education, 26.7% hold a master's degree as their highest level of education, and 3.3% hold a doctorate degree. The breakdown of teacher's ages found in the table below

Our results show that high school teachers are mostly older adults which makes the job seem less appealing to young adults entering into their careers.
