The couple has decided to have children. However, since both Tony and Joe are both males, they needed to commission a woman to have their baby for them. Tony and Joe struggled to decide whose gamete ought to be used for purposes of artificial fertilization. They eventually decide to use Joe's gamete and the fertilization process commences. Before the baby is born, Tony is chosen to attend a work exchange programme in Capetown, for a period of 3 years. Tony left on 1 February 2018 and has been there to date. Although Tony and Joe are still married, their relationship has taken a turn for the worst. Tony has never seen the baby and when asked by Joe when he is coming back to Grahamstown he responds: "I don't see myself ever leaving Capetown".
