"Tort Reform" is a political, social and economic movement focused on reforming our tort system. It arises out of the belief that in some cases our legal system has "run amok:" that too many frivolous suits are brought; that damage awards are excessive; and that the costs associated with these cases are passed onto businesses and consumers.

One approach many states have taken to rein in jury verdicts is to impose caps on damages.
