Baloyi Farms was founded in 1997, in the Free State province, and has followed a dynamic, long-term growth strategy. Currently, Baloyi Farms owns and operates eight farms across various provinces in South Africa and employs over 400 people. The business aims to expand its trade by exporting to other countries in Africa such as Angola, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe. The businesss success is based on providing fruit of a high quality, high standards of customer service and maintaining long-term relationships with clients. Bongani Nduna is the training and development manager at Baloyi Farms. He is responsible for the following training activities: Selecting suitable trainers for the training programmes Planning the training and development budget for Baloyi Farms for the subsequent year Taking steps to motivate training and support staff at Baloyi Farms Determining whether the training programmes are executed as planned Providing direction and guidelines for training staff Determining the training needs of Baloyi Farms There are two candidates, currently employed in the training and development division at Baloyi Farms, who are applying for the vacant training and development practitioner and skills development facilitator (SDF) positions. The first candidate, Willem Potgieter, is able to develop Baloyi Farms workplace skills plan (WSP) for submission to AgriSETA, has a good understanding of the national qualifications framework (NQF), manages the contracting out of training and development to accredited providers and is able to monitor and advise on the implementation of the WSP. The second candidate, Lesedi Nduna, provides Baloyi Farms with leadership and guidance regarding training and development activities, measures the impact of training and development on the success of the business, promotes training programmes among top management and target groups, and manages group discussions and group processes so that individuals can learn from them. Ace Trainers, an accredited training provider, has been chosen by Baloyi Farms to offer the Farming 101 training programme to its employees. Farming 101 is aimed at teaching employees about various farming methods and practices. Learners of the Farming 101 training programme will be registered with Ace Trainers and Ace Trainers will offer the structured learning component. There will also be an agreement between the participant, Ace Trainers, and Baloyi Farms and there will be 24/7 online support available to participants. The Farming 101 training programme is also registered by AgriSETA with the Department of Labour. Shamantha Naidoo, an assessor who is registered with AgriSETA as an assessor for Farming 101, will evaluate the work experience. Furthermore, completion of the Farming 101 training programme will result in a South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) registered qualification with 130 credits.
