Question \#4: Living in a post-truth society [Total: 25 points] Digital media technologies (e.g., social media, search engines, recommendation systems, algorithms, deep fake technology, Artificial Intelligence, etc.) are often blamed for being the main or sole reason for spreading misinformation, disinformation, and/or conspiracy theories. Yet, the course readings and lectures showed the nuances and complexity of why people believe in mis and disinformation. The course readings and lecture videos in module 3 offer multiple perspectives beyond digital media technologies. These factors contribute to varying degrees to the spread of misinformation, dis-information, and conspiracy theories: - Explain how each of these factors contribute to the spread of mis- \& disinformation and/or conspiracy theories [ 25 points; 5 points per factor]: - Digital technology factor - Psychological/cognitive/emotional factor - Literacy factor (news or scientific) - Political factor - Economic factor Hint: The answers are found throughout the lecture and readings in module 3.
