Travel Project: Research Travel and Create Travel Memo & Itinerary

Instructions

Your supervisor, Katie Satake, will be traveling to a city on the US East Coast to meet with clients. The trip will begin one month from today. The trip will last for seven days (starting date from her Spokane airport departure through her arrival date back to the Spokane airport). To help your supervisor prepare for her business trip, you will create an itinerary and one-page memo that provides necessary and useful travel and work information.

  1. Select a city on the US East Coast to which your supervisor will travel.
  2. Research the current travel restrictions within the state where your supervisor will travel to.
  3. Research flights to that city. Select a flight itinerary for the trip.
  4. Research the cancellation policies and change fees of the airlines that your supervisor will be using.
  5. Select a hotel where your supervisor will stay. Note the hotel name and address, reservation dates, and room rates as you would when booking the hotel.
  6. Research the cancellation policies and change fees of the hotel where your supervisor will be staying.
  7. Research the best way for your supervisor to get back and forth between the airport and hotel.
  8. Look at the sample itinerary in Figure 13-10 in your textbook. Using Microsoft Word, create an itinerary for your supervisor for the trip you've planned. Schedule three meetings with clients (choose names for the clients and appointment times) to be held at the hotel where your supervisor is staying. On the itinerary, include all of your supervisor's necessary travel and meeting information:
    • Flight numbers
    • Arrival and departures times
    • Hotel reservations (including check-in and check-out times)
    • Car rental or other ground transportation
    • Meeting times and meeting room numbers
  9. Insert a new blank page before the itinerary. On that page, write a one-page memo to your supervisor that prepares her for her trip. In your memo, provide information about current travel restrictions, cancellation policies, and change fees associated with her trip. Make sure to include a page break between the memo and the itinerary.
  10. Save your document as a PDF and upload and submit your document here.

Tips for Success:

  • Count the days carefully to ensure the trip is exactly 7 days.
  • No copying and pasting of information onto the memo or itinerary. Copying and pasting in documents such as these appears unprofessional and impersonal.
  • For the itinerary, figure 13.1 is a beginning point. Critical thinking is needed as this is a 7 day trip with only 3 meetings. What else would you like to provide your supervisor regarding things to do? All days should provide activities/suggestions.
