Two Discussion replies Help:

1) There are a couple of items that are exempted from being able to requesting records under Florida's public record's law. Some of the most notable being people who have retired as either police, government, or militaries addresses. Some other exemptions are also addresses, social security number, and certain things on death certificates (Florida Department of Management Services, n.d.). For the sake of time, the one exemption that will be discussed throughout this post will be social security number. The reason this was chosen is because it is a big part of not only growing up, but living legally inside the united states borders themselves. The legislative law has decided to exempt this type of information from disclosure for the safety and wellbeing of others. Imagine if under certain circumstances, this information had the ability to be obtained and seen by others. That would frighten many people as a social security number controls so much of an induvial identity and future goals. Luckily, this type of information will not be given out and is exempted to be use as evidence for anything. Hopefully this eases the mind of many people when it comes to personal security and future.

2) Almost everyday you hear about some type of security breach where personal information has been hacked or compromised. This is very disconcerting and an invasion of privacy that has cost civilians millions of dollars in losses and legal fees trying to rectify. Aside from the illegal aspects of personal information, there is the information that can be accessed by the public legally. Florida State Statute 119.071 states that certain information maintained by state agencies is exempt from public disclosure, and is therefore deemed confidential (Division of Workers Compensation, n.d.). The same statute additionally provides for the exemption of home addresses and telephone numbers form public discourse for certain occupational groups such as law enforcement, correctional officers, DHS employees, DOH employees, Department of Revenue, firefighters, judges and other officers of the state (Division of Workers Compensation, n.d.). These exemptions are put into place for the scope of protection which may include home addresses, phone numbers, photos, name of spouse and/or children, places of employment, and/or school or daycare care facility, and date of birth. A Florida Department of State Public Records Exemption Request form is used to fill out this request with a required notarization. This is necessary in certain situations such as judges that may enact certain judgements such as child support or custody to protect them from retaliation from a disgruntled individual.
