uantitative and Qualitative Data Analysis QNT/275 The use of quantitative and qualitative data analysis becomes necessary in the business industry for making effective decisions. We need several statistical tools and methods while analysing the data in business or industry. During any research study within organization or business, it is important to use proper methods of data analysis for getting unbiased results. For any research study, the first step is to develop or establish the research hypotheses. After establishing the research hypotheses, we need to collect the data for checking established hypotheses. There are different types of random sampling methods and we need to use suitable random sampling based on the nature of population. Collected data should be reliable and valid for conducting the research study. We want to study some customer behaviour pattern at Albany Mall. The manager of the Albany Mall wants to analyse the expenditure pattern of customers. Manager want to check whether there is any statistically significant difference observed in the expenditure patterns of the persons based on the different gender, education levels, and socio-economic class. For checking the manager's claim, we need to collect the data by using proper data collection methods. Let us see this data collection method in detail. Research Hypotheses For any type of research study or project, the first step is to develop or establish the research hypotheses or claims. For the above described research study, the manager of the Albany Mall established the research hypotheses as below: Is there any significant difference in the average expenditure by the male and female customers? Is there any significant difference in the average expenditure by the persons with different education levels? Is there any significant difference in the average expenditure by the persons with different socio economic class? Data Collection Method For answering above established research hypotheses, we need to collect the data from the customers at Albany Mall. We need to use proper method of data collection. We should include both male and female customers in our data. Also, we should include the persons with different education levels and socio-economic classes. We consider the sampling frame for survey as all customers visited in a single day. We would select about 200 customers by using the simple random sampling method. It is important to use the adequate sample size for getting unbiased and reliable results. After selection of the random sample, we would collect the information for different variables by using well prepared questionnaires or interviews. It is important to ask questions politely with adequate number of alternatives for answering the question. All care should be taken during the process of data collection. Sometimes, we would get non-response for some queries and these types of non-responses should be handled properly. For the given research project, we would collect the information or data for the variables such as gender of the person, education level of the person, socio-economic class of the person and total expenditure by the customers in the Albany Mall. We would avoid asking other unrelated questions in the questionnaire during the process of data collection. After collection of responses from customers, we would organize the data in a tabular form for further statistical analysis.
