Leaders that think that they have reached the pinnacle of their development are destined for failure and unhappiness. When looking at how to develop a comprehensive leadership plan, it is imperative to look introspectively at oneself from four perspectives: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. A physical perspective requires the leader to understand him or herself (and his or her followers) from a physical perspective (sleep, nutrition, and exercise). The mental perspective involves challenging oneself and one's followers from a psychological perspective. Always being challenged mentally should be a primary concern for leaders and their followers. From an emotional perspective, a leader needs to both understand him or herself and his or her followers from the lens of empathy. Empathy involves \"getting in the shoes\" of other people and taking an honest, introspective view of one's own feelings. Finally, from a spiritual perspective, a sense of purpose and direction needs to be established in the workplace. Working for the bottom line is not enough. Working for a higher purpose (not necessarily religious) brings solidarity and intrinsic motivations to both workers and leaders alike. The development of a comprehensive plan is paramount for a leader. Taking an honest, introspective look may require the help of others that are around the leader. A critical eye is absolutely necessary in order to improve the leader's effectiveness. Self-awareness refers to the insightful processing of feedback about oneself to better or improve one's effectiveness. Single-loop learning occurs when learners seek minimum feedback, and double-loop learning is associated with an in-depth use of feedback to confront the validity of the goals and values determined for a particular situation.
