Use graphing calculator desmos.com for roller coaster design.
Part 1: The rollercoaster design. The design must meet the following criteria: [5T]
There must be three different sections to the ride:
section 1: a polynomial function of an odd degree (not linear)
section 2: a polynomial function of even degree (not quadratic)
section 3: a polynomial function of your choice (not linear and not quadratic)
All three functions must:
be significantly different from one another (should not have the same degree, or intercepts)
be in factored form with at least three factors
at least two of the functions must meet at one point
include a moving object in each of the three sections
Part 2: A) State the degree, leading coefficient, number of turning points, domain and range for one of the polynomials you used in your design.
B) State the roots for one of the polynomials you used in your design. Interpret their meaning in the context of this question.
C) State the local maximum and minimum points for one of the polynomials you used in your design. Interpret their meaning in the context of this question.
D) Aperson on this ride is at half the maximum height away from the ground. Graphically determine the point that represents the location of this rider. (For example: if the maximum height is 100, what point would represent the location of the rider when the height is 50?) Include a sketch of your work.
Notes:
3. Restrictions:
To show part of the graph of a function you must restrict its domain and not its range.
4. Animation:
Must include a moving object in design.
