Use the "Sleep Study of College Students" data on StatCrunch to address this problem. https://www.statcrunch.com/app/index.php?dataid=3665785Links to an external site.

About this data: The data were obtained from a sample of college students who completed a survey that asked many questions about their health, feelings, and drinking habits. Participants also kept a sleeping journal to keep track of the amount and quality of sleep they got over a two-week period.

"Larks" are those students who identified a preference for waking up early.

"Owls" are those students who identified a preference for staying up late.

"Neither" are those students who did not identify as either a Lark or Owl.

One research question that can be addressed from this data is: Do students who identify as "Owls" miss more classes on average than those who identify as "Larks"? We will construct confidence intervals to help address this question.

As a response to this question, please do the following:

  • Construct summary statistics for the "ClassesMissed" column and group by the "LarkOwl" column. Include your results and comment on any differences you notice.
  • Make a confidence interval to estimate the population average classes missed for students who identify as "Owls." Interpret your interval in the context of the problem (use alpha =.05)
  • Make a confidence interval to estimate the population average classes missed for students who identify as "Larks." Interpret your interval in the context of the problem (use alpha=.05)
  • Compare the intervals, what might you conclude about the research question stated above? Be specific.
