Use this scenario to answer questions 13 through 17. You were run over by your neighbour's grandma, Grandma Nettie. Grandma Nettie was late for Bingo and was distracted by the conversation she was having with her friend Enid who was in the passenger seat. Upset that Enid made her late and refused to acknowledge the superior quality of New Zealand wool, Grandma Nettie put her van in reverse and stomped on the gas in frustration. She didn't notice you crossing behind her on the sidewalk and hit you with her van. You were knocked forcefully to the ground and hit your head. Grandma stopped the van and jumped out as you staggered to your feet. You rubbed your head and shoulder and said you were ok. Grandma made you sit down and drink a glass of water, but you insisted you felt fine and went on about your day. 6 months later, you woke up in pain. Your neck, shoulders and back had locked up. You made your way to the hospital that morning where you were told that you were suffering from a rare form of delayed injury; likely caused from a forceful impact. The only forceful impact you've suffered was when Grandma's van hit you. You missed 2 weeks of work because you were in hospital in traction, and you missed an additional 2 weeks of work as you worked with a physiotherapist to get moving enough to go back to your desk job part-time. You were supposed to go on an adventure tour (hiking in the Alps) but you had to cancel because your doctor said you couldn't miss any follow up appointments (or risk serious set-backs to your spinal health). You lost the $2,000 non-refundable deposit for the trip. Because you couldn't do any grocery shopping, cleaning or yard work for a few months, you hired a local SAIT student to help you with those tasks until the doctor told you it was safe to do them yourself. Your doctor has told you that it is possible that there may be a need for another medical procedure in a year or two depending on how you heal. In any event, she advises you that you'll have to have a scan every 4 months for the next year to make sure there are no issues with your healing. You take Pain-ox to deal with the aching in your back and legs, and one of the side-effects of the Pain-Ox is fatigue. You used to be very active, and were the president and founding member of the Calgary Club of Committed Perambulists (CCCP), but you have resigned because you feel so tired much of the time. Instead of hiking 7 or 8 times a week, you barely manage to walk around your yard twice a month. Now you feel glum a lot of the time: tired and weepy. In addition to your physical injuries, you are also suffering from speech difficulties. After the accident, you noticed that you would sometimes have difficulty speaking. When you were in the hospital these symptoms worsened and now you have difficulty speaking at all. You have received intensive speech therapy (which is very expensive) and you have been told that you will have to continue the speech therapy for many years. Even with the therapy, doctors say that your speech will always be affected. Doctors have diagnosed that the speech issue is a rare genetic condition that develops at around your age. Your parents confirm that your great grand-father also had this condition, as does your aunt, and
