Nowadays, profit oriented businesses should be considerate of all stakeholders, rather than simply concentrating on profit maximization. Corporate Social Responsibility is a corner stone of modern businesses, and it cannot be ignored, so it is important to complete all work according to relevant and accepted business ethics and within the scope of responsibility. This week you will analyze a situation, and comment whether the business adhered to the Corporate Social Responsibility principles. Global Ores Company is the second largest producer of Iron ore in Canada. The company is operating a plant in Nunavut, Canada. The plant is old and needs many repairs, but with plunging steel prices, the company cannot afford to repair the plant. Jack a team leader at Global Ores Company is working in the company's plant in Nunavut, Canada. Jack suspected for a long time that the air filter on the chimney is not functioning well, because the fumes from chimney number 10 were much darker than the fumes from other chimneys, even though fume colors should all be the same, regardless of the chimney. Jack raised this concern to his management several times, but they took no action, since the company is not planning any replacements. Jack spent several months investigating the issue on his own, after work hours, and he realized that the filter in the chimney is broken down, and toxic wastes are entering the air around the factory. Jack contacted the local media, and they wrote an article in the Nunavut times about this issue. Higher management saw the article, and they realized that it's a matter of time that federal regulators, local citizens, and other stakeholders come after the company seeking information on this issue. You are an "Ethics Officer" working with Global Ores Company, and it is your task to handle the situation, so you decide to follow the following steps in order to resolve this issue. Identify and discuss the ethical issues. Identify and discuss the corporate social responsibility issues. Recommend what should be done to make sure the company adheres to the ethical and corporate social responsibility standards.

Identifying and assessing the ethical issues (2%). Identifying and assessing the corporate social responsibility issues (2%). Suggesting an alternative action plan, which will be in-line with corporate social responsibility and ethical standards (1%). Note: assume any missing information. Clearly state your assumptions in your submissions. Summarize your findings in a two-page word document.
