Using a 1% significance level:

The test statistic is about 1.15 and we conclude that CORNPLOSION significantly improves the yield. We should invest in this new fertilizer.

The test statistic is about 1.15 and we conclude that CORNPLOSION does not significantly improve the yield. We will keep using the fertilizer we always had.

The test statistic is about 2.62 and we conclude that CORNPLOSION significantly improves the yield. We should invest in this new fertilizer.

The test statistic is about 2.62 and we conclude that CORNPLOSION does not significantly improve the yield. We will keep using the fertilizer we always had.

CORNPLOSION is obviously better and should be used because the average yield of the 10 half fields treated with CORNPLOSION was more than the average yield of the 10 half fields treated without it.

A fertilizer company is trying to convince corn farmers using a particular fertilizer that their product CORNPLOSION will lead to an increase in productivity over their currently used fertilizer. To compare which product creates a higher yield of corn, 10 one-acre fields are split into halves. Their currently used fertilizer is utilized on one-half of the field and CORNPLOSION on the other. The fertilizer that goes on the East half of the field is determined by coin flip to reduce the possibility that there is something about the sun's direction that might confound this study. (There is a randomization of halves.) For a farmer to change their brand, they would need to be convinced that CORNPLOSION is really a significant improvement. The yield of corn is measured in bushels per acres. The data are given below and a variety of summary statistics are given as well: Field Generic CORNPLOSION delta C-G 15 12 22 14 25 11 12 20 10 18 MEAN 15.70 19.20 3.50 Sid Dev 5.40 7.96 4.22 Using a 1% significance level: O The test statistic is about 1.15 and we conclude that CORNPLOSION significantly improves the yield.
