• Review how to avoid floating quotes and how to properly integrate your quotes (1.5 min quick review video and/ or longer explanation and help video)
• Provide a quote from your research in the blue box.
• Provide the citation for the source (APA for ENC 1102/COMP 1000,1500, 2000; MLA for ENC 1101)
• Practice the 3 ways to use the quote within a paragraph (HINT: you can reuse most of the paragraph, just change the treatment of the quote). You can use this template of sentence frames if you want while integrating your quote into paragraphs.

Summary

Find the major points of the paragraph- what are the main ideas?

There are three basic rules to follow when choosing quotations:

(Note: a quotation is not just when you quote a characterit is also when you quote text)

1. Use quotations when another writers words are memorable and will make your paper more

interesting.

2. Use quotations when another writers words can say something better than you.

3. Use quotations when you want add authority to your paper. Basically, you are providing

proof that what you are arguing is true.

Once youve selected the passage you want to quote, work the

material into your paper in as naturally as you can. You dont want

to to just drop quotes into the middle of you paper without any

kind of set up.
