Interview Questions and Responses:

1. Can you describe a time when you successfully led a team through a complex and challenging project? What strategies did you employ to ensure effective communication, collaboration, and timely delivery?

The best I can think of here is our overhaul of Train the Trainer. Step one was to hold a kaizen event to get input from the team. We mapped out what changes might look like and then as a group, assigned a person or two to be responsible for each phase. We shared progress at our biweekly meetings and spent time checking and adjusting. We did not meet our initial deadline, and are flirting with not meeting our second deadline, so perhaps I'm not that great at leading a team that can deliver on time.

2. In a rapidly evolving world in this age and time, how would you foster a culture of innovation and encourage continuous learning among team members?

I think it is important for team members to bring different opinions and life experiences to the group. One way to foster this is to encourage professional development for individuals. Actively asking what activities people are engaged in to learn and grow and presenting team members with opportunities when they become available.

3. How do you encourage empowerment and autonomy among your team members?

Giving team members projects they can take the lead on and expecting them to be the SME's on those projects, not only helps team members grow and learn, it also empowers them to make decisions and gain confidence in their skills.

4. How do you define leadership within the context of serving others?

I strongly believe that good leaders are leaders who support, encourage, teach, are available, and grow their team members.

5. What is the significance of vision and values in shaping one's leadership style?

Vision helps you know where you are going. Values help you get there. Again, leading with values in everything I do has served me well, and having a vision/purpose/or why I do something has helped me succeed.

6. What strategies do you use to encourage and drive each member of your team to surpass expectations and readily adopt change?

Change is very difficult for some people. There can be a lot of coaching, both individually and as a group, that needs to happen to help people accept change. I think one of the best ways to help people accept change is to listen to their fear, thoughts, and opinions. As well as having them help make decisions regarding the change. If people have some control over change, they feel better about the change.

7. How do you build trust and credibility with your team members and stakeholders?

I think trust is built over time, but the foundation of trust is transparency, reliability, and mutual respect. If a leader lives out these values every day, they will build trust with their team.

8. Could you kindly provide an account of a scenario in which you were required to modify your leadership approach in order to suit the varied dynamics within a team?

This happened often in the classroom. Depending on the behavior of students in the classroom, I would need to change my approach. I loved to lead classroom discussions and get the opinions of students, but some groups couldn't handle that and I needed to adjust my approach accordingly. For those classes I took more of a dominating role and would allow less conversation. I think leading people to of all ages is like this...you need to assess who you are leading and adjust what you are doing accordingly.
